Of course we tried out yoga for our mental health!

Episode #10 – Yoga

How have we not tested this out before?! Yoga is said to be amazing for your mental wellbeing. Why? Because you’re exercising, meditating, and being present all in one. You’re also able to build connection with yourself and those around you, so it’s great if you’re looking for a community to join.

So with this all in mind, we chucked on our active wear and headed out to Bikes and Bends lunchtime yoga in the city.

Of course we could not do it alone, so we called on Nickson Clark (Mai FM) to join us. So is yoga great for my mental wellbeing? Watch the video above to find out!

Making plans with friends gives you something to look forward to, and this is said to help heaps with your mental wellbeing. But there’s also some weight to being spontaneous, as well. We tested it out!

Are you stressed because you’re not organised?

Episode #8 – Getting Organised

Realising you missed an appointment/exam/hot date because you didn’t write it down. AKA, The worst feeling in the world.

Being organised is so much more than just knowing what’s coming up for you, and it plays a massive part in how stressed (and therefore anxious) we may feel. So I put it to the test, and also challenged my work friends to do the same.

So does getting organised help with my mental wellbeing? Watch the video above to find out!

How social media plays a big part in our happiness

Episode #7 – Social Media

There’s no denying that we’re all pretty glued to our screens these days. You’re in front of a screen right now, after all; technology is how I’m able to communicate with you.
So since we already covered phone gaming and how that can help (or hinder) your mental wellbeing, I thought we should look into social media next since that’s what I primarily use my phone for.

So does social media help with my mental wellbeing, and what tips can you take on board to make your experience more enjoyable when you’re scrolling through your newsfeed? Watch the video above!

How good is gaming for your mental health?

Episode #6 – Gaming

We all have a cheeky game or two (or ten) on our phone that helps us to zone out for a while, and although it may all seems like fun and games (get it?) at the time, what impact is this having on our mental wellbeing?

I’m not a big phone gamer myself, but I have a lot of friends who have games as a big part of their life. With this in mind, I challenged myself to up my phone game usage and see how I felt at the end of the week.

Did gaming help with my mental wellbeing? Check it out!

Is being “in the moment” good for your mental health?

Episode #5 – Being present

Taking a moment to breathe, getting lost in your thoughts, really being aware of where you are right now – All ways to practice being present. But why should you try it?

It’s hard when life is so busy and “go go go” to pause for a moment and really take in what and how you’re feeling. Practicing this can help you to notice other aspects of your life you may want to change, so I thought we should put it to the test.

Join me as we head to Muriwai beach (Auckland, New Zealand) and try our hand at journaling too.

We did stuff for other people and it made us feel good

Episode #4 – Kindness

Spreading kindness. Offering a helping hand. Simple acts of kindness. It’s supposed to make us feel good, right? Yip! So we tested it out.

Cam (from ZM) and I put a call out to see who needed a hand or wanted something from us, and the responses came flooding in. Everyone was after a bit of company, it seems, some also wanted food and others wanted something good done on behalf of them. All the feels!

From there, we went out and sprinkled that kindness around like confetti. It made us feel good, but how good you ask? Watch the video to find out…

Can certain foods power your brain and body?

Episode #3 – Nutrition

In Series One we worked out that although ‘bad’ foods can make you feel good at the time, healthier food is better for you in the long run. Armed with this knowledge, I wanted to test out certain foods (and the power they claim to have) to see if I can notice a difference in my wellbeing.

So what do I mean by this? Well, I’ve been lacking a lot of concentration and energy lately so I’ve researched what foods are good for this… Avocado, chia seeds, eggs, and green tea. YUM!

In this video, check out how I went with adding these delish items to my diet and find out whether I saw any changes in my wellbeing because of it.

Is Martial Arts more than just fighting?

Episode #2 – Physical Activity

So I’ve heard that Martial Arts is really good for the mind, body and soul. Mr Miyagi vouches for it, after all! But it’s not something I’ve ever looked into. To be honest, I’ve always thought it’s best suited to the kinds of people looking to get some anger out.

Low and behold, I was proven wrong. I had a one-on-one training session with Carl (10 x world champion and international coach) at Van Roon Martial Arts, to learn a few Taekwon-Do techniques.

In this video, check out the struggles I have during this session and find out my thoughts on taking up Physical Activity to help with your wellbeing.
